Tickets and passes for Rome Metro

Tickets and passes for Rome Metro

Rome Metro tickets range from a single-journey BIT to passes valid for set periods. ATAC lists the ATAC Roma app, Tap & Go contactless payment, the B+ smartphone service, ticket offices, authorized shops and vending machines as BIT purchase options.

A BIT costs €1.50 and is valid for 100 minutes from first validation. On the Metro, it covers one journey, including changes between lines, subject to the turnstile rules: you must not pass through the turnstiles when changing between Lines A, B/B1 and C. Passing through is permitted for a Line A–Line C change.

For repeated trips, ROMA 24H costs €8.50 for 24 hours, ROMA 48H costs €15.00 for 48 hours, and ROMA 72H costs €22.00 for 72 hours, each from first validation. The weekly CIS costs €29.00 and covers unlimited journeys within Rome until midnight of the seventh day, including the validation day.

ATAC says to validate a BIT at the start of the journey and again when switching to a Metro line. When changing vehicles within the 100-minute limit, validate it again for use through the end of the journey. Ticket prices and conditions can change, so check the official site before you go.

Using metro, bus and rail together

Using metro, bus and rail together

A BIT can cover Metro and vehicle changes within its 100-minute validity, but you must validate again when switching to a Metro line and when changing vehicles. Keep the turnstile restrictions in mind if your Metro route changes lines.

For a trip that combines bus, rail and Metro, use the ATAC journey planner to check the route and scheduled timetable, then consult its maps page to follow the connections. That makes it easier to identify where the Metro portion begins and where you may need to validate again.
